Election 2008

In the past two presidential elections, Americans elected the person we would most like to have a beer with. During the present election campaign Hillary Clinton apparently felt compelled to have a beer in a tavern with "working men". Now Obama is being portrayed as elitist and John McCain is the man who would enjoy having a beer in a tavern and discussing politics with the men. Of course McCain's millionaire wife owns a brewery and so McCain can have a beer any time he wants it and wherever he wants it. This gives McCain a distinct electoral advantage.

However we have learned that Bush was an alcoholic. He was probably brain damaged from his heavy drinking years and beer drinking didn't turn out to be a great qualification for the presidency.

Do we have to make the same mistake all over again? Let's look at education, intelligence, and judgment as presidential skills. As to which man is more elitist, is it the millionaire senator or the law school senator? Let's face it, anyone running for President of the United States is not the common man or woman. Paris Hilton running for president would be laughable (I hope). Reagan was a celebrity who became president. Does the power to inspire people and draw crowds make a person unfit for president?

Let's try to use our brains this time and not be take in again by Karl Rove.
