THIS EARTHLY WORLD

Alas, we live in this earthly world.  We deal with endless frustration.  How do we deal with people who refuse to believe in evolution, refuse to believe in science, refuse to believe in global warming?  Their leaders know the truth, but teach the people the opposite.  And people believe them.  Why do the leaders deny the truth?  They are willing to destroy the earth in order to have more oil.  More oil means more money for them.  It may mean death for the rest of us, but who cares?  The climate is changing, the storms are worsening, the earth is becoming more polluted, but the drilling for oil, and the destruction of mountaintops for coal continues.  Our precious water supply is being destroyed, but who cares?  The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil.  That is becoming more and more obvious to us.  Wall Street destroyed the entire world economy.  However, the brokers on Wall Street continue to make money; only the people who followed them are destroyed.  The one percent are happy.  The 99 percent are struggling.  This is the situation that preceeded the Russian revolution.  The bankers and the mortgage companies are doing fine.  Only the people are in foreclosure and bankruptcy. 

The Republican Party deliberately bankrupted the government ("Starve the Beast") by cutting taxes and starting two wars.  Not one word was said about the deficit until Obama was elected president.  Then it all began.  The Republicans hate social security and medicare.  They have been wanting to get rid of those programs ever since Franklin Roosevelt began social security and Lyndon Johnson began medicare.  "We can't afford these programs."   The only thing we can afford is war.  Are we going to become a nation like North Korea where there is a huge military, but the people are starving?  We have more weapons and more military spending than every other nation on earth put together.  But it is not enough.  We need more money for "defense."  It is interesting the the Republican President Dwight Eisenhower warned us against the military industrial complex.  But that was a different Republican Party.  The Republican Party today has a budget that will do away with medicare and social security.  The people of this country will die from lack of health care and starve from lack of money; but we will have a military adequate for the defense of our oil and coal.

As if all of this were not enough, the Republicans want total control of women's lives.  The party that talks about getting government off people's backs wants total government control of women. 

On top of this we have the Catholic Church which feels it does not have religious freedom.  Excuse me, but my ancestors came to this country seeking religious freedom, because they were being persecuted by the kings of Spain and France in the name of the Catholic Church.  The American Constitution gives citizens religious freedom.  It does not give churches the freedom to dictate to citizens what kind of health care they are allowed to have.  But I forget, I am in this earthly world.
