The main Republican cry seems to be, get the government off our backs. However, this appears to apply only to men. The Republican Party wants the government ON women's backs. They want the government to make all of women's decisions; obviously women can't be trusted to make our own decisions. They want to forbid access to contraception for women, forbid abortions for women, possibly try women for murder if they have an abortion, (or maybe even if they have a miscarriage; after all, one can't know whether or not it might really have been an abortion). They want to try abortion doctors for murder. They want to assure physicians in emergency rooms that they can allow pregnant women to die without risk of malpractice charges.
None of this is concern for human life. It is purely misogyny. They do not show any concern for the life of a born woman. The fertilized egg is more important to them than the life of a born woman. Women's health care is of no concern whatsoever. They seldom show concern for health care for babies and children. They cut food stamps and services for the women, infants and children program. Likewise, they show no concern for any one's health care. The audience at one of the debates cheered at the thought of a person dying for lack of health insurance. Is this respect for life?
They show no concern for the execution of possibly innocent people. I personally am opposed to the death penalty. I do not believe that we as a society should take human life. I am also opposed to war. War is also the taking of human life. And most of those people killed in war are not evil, any more than our own soldiers. All the soldiers are simply trying to serve their country and their people. It is the leaders of the countries who start most of these wars.
I do not believe that every fertilized egg has to be brought to life. I do not see this as a divine decree. Most women are not going to have more than one to three children in their lives. Surely they have the right to decide when. where, and how, to have those few children.
Ironically, or hypocritically, the Republicans are the party that supports the military. This is pro-life? We spend more money on the military than all the other nations of the world combined. We are a truly militaristic nation. We are more concerned with military spending than with food and healthcare for our citizens. This is not pro-life. This is evil. A militaristic nation cannot call itself pro-life.
