George Bush and the Republicans

George Bush set out to spend all of the United States money so that there would be no money for social programs. He tried his best to destroy social security. He announced that social security was in danger; then he took billions of dollars out of the social security fund and spent it for whatever he wanted (tax breaks for millionaires). He was happy to start a war, because that meant that he could spend still more money and he could be a "War President". One of the reasons he wanted to destroy social security was that it was developed by Franklin Roosevelt, and Bush and all of the Republicans hated everything about Roosevelt. Well, Bush did an excellent job of spending all of our money and destroying as much as possible. Now the entire world economy is in free fall.

All economists seem to agree that the only way to deal with this severe recession or depression is to spend a great deal of government money. But suddenly the Republican Party is determined to show "fiscal responsibility". This is laughable after the irresponsible spending they have done for the past eight years. They offer no real suggestions on how to deal with the incredible problems they brought us. Instead they simply say no to any attempt the Democrats make to try to solve the Republican devastation. I have not heard a single Republican say, "I'm sorry for the financial problems we have created." I have not heard of a single Republican committing hari kari as the Japanese would do if they created such critical financial problems. No Republican takes any responsibility for this mess. Instead, they make comments about it being Obama's fault that stocks are falling! This is surreal.

For the past twenty five years the Republicans have been spinning fairy tales about their trickle down theory of economics and how important it is for the rich to get richer. They have devastated the poor and the middle class. This is the kind of thing that brings on revolutions. Unregulated capitalism is evil. It always has been evil. The Industrial Revolution brought out two writers in England: Karl Marx and Charles Dickens. Karl Marx called for revolution, "Workers of the World, Unite!" Charles Dickens urged social reform. His novels about the abject poverty and suffering of the common people brought about regulations and social reform. Now we seem to be back where we started. Reagan and Bush have brought back the totally deregulated capitalism of the nineteenth century.

Once again we have to turn to regulations and social reform. I view that as a much better choice than revolution. But if the Republican Party keeps up their insanity they may bring on a revolution. Ironically, their work to destroy the government has brought us to the point of turning again to the approach of Franklin Roosevelt, whom they hated, as we try to save the country from depression.
