Illegal Immigration Problem

I have very ambiguous feelings about the problem with illegal immigration. I truly sympathize with the immigrants who are desperate to support their families. I also sympathize with American workers who are losing their jobs to illegal immigrants who are willing to work for lower wages and no benefits. Big business is supporting illegal immigration and urging President Bush not to stop it, because they make more money by hiring the cheap labor. Businesses also go abroad to build their factories so that they can hire cheap labor.

The problem with Chinese labor ties into the illegal immigration problem. Americans were told that it was unsafe to buy drugs in Canada! Now we find out that our drugs are coming from China. And they are really unsafe! The heparin is killing people. The toothpaste is poisoned. The toys are made with lead which was outlawed years ago. It is obvious that we cannot trust any products made in China.

The solution is to have businesses move their factories from China to Mexico and Central America. Then the Mexicans and Central Americans would not be forced to leave their families and go illegally to America to find jobs to support their families. I believe these people would be more trustworthy in business and would not be trying to poison us. And they would not have to cross our borders illegally to find jobs.

Finally, businesses must realize that they cannot manufacture products without paying anything whatsoever for the labor. The Chinese used poisons and other substitutes for proper ingredients because they were desperate to lower their costs even more. There are obvious limits to lowering the costs of production. Substituting poison for another ingredient is not acceptable. Our businesses have driven the workers to this extreme.

American business has created the problem of illegal immigration and American business must solve the problem. They are the ones who tell us that they do not want government solving all of our problems. They believe in privatization for all problems. Well, they have created the problem and they need to solve it. They need to quit hiring illegal immigrants, pay living wages to American workers, and carefully consider where they build their factories.
