ABORTION

The 2014 election is approaching and both parties are gearing up for it.  The Republicans are again wanting to prevent all abortions as well as prevent women's access to contraception.  Republican women are trying to give instructions to Republican candidates about how to discuss abortion, since it became a disaster for some Republican candidates in the last election.  The basic approach is for candidates to say as little as possible.  They should simply ask, "How far along in a pregnancy should abortion be allowed?"  Their answer is, "Never."

I find it interesting that Republicans want the government to outlaw abortion, since Republican policy in general is to want the government to stay out of personal concerns.  The Federal Government should not control anything, according to Republicans, except women's reproduction.  Where women are concerned, the Federal Government and the State Governments should step in and completely control women's lives.  This is totally hypocritical.

I believe that abortion and contraception are part of women's health care.  This should be a concern between a woman and her physician.  The Federal and the State governments should have no part in it, period.  Insurance companies should also have no say in it.  Women's health care should not be under government control, under a corporation's control, under an employer's control, or under insurance company control.  However, abortion and contraception should be paid for by insurance just as all other health care is paid for by insurance.  Why is women's health care suddenly illegal?  This is totally immoral and unethical.  Women should have a right to health care.  The Republicans have managed to declare women's health care, abortion and contraception, as being illegal and immoral.  This is in itself immoral and unethical.

What if women began declaring men's health care to be a matter of moral concern?  Should men be allowed to have prescriptions for medications such as Viagra?  Are those prescriptions immoral and unethical?  Maybe men should be forced by law to use contraceptives to avoid impregnating women.  This would prevent the need for abortions.  I propose that the government begin regulating men's health care instead of women's health care.
